SaskEnergy is warning people getting their power through them that a scammer could target them.

The power company says they’ve received reports that scammers posing either as SaskEnergy or the Federal Government. The scammer offers someone rebates on the carbon tax, furnace replacement or possibly equipment maintenance.

SaskEnergy is warning that this is not true, and these people do not represent them. They’re also warning people will not be offered rebates by solicitation or door-to-door sales either.

They note that any rebate offer will be sent out using participating SaskEnergy Network Members only. These are available for people to lookup on the SaskEnergy website.

It’s asked that if someone has received a call or a visit like this, they should not give any information out. Instead, call the Saskatchewan Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority.

If they have provided personal financial information like a bank account number or credit card information over the phone, they should call the local police to report it and their bank as well.
