City looking for input on future of Parkview Estates development

Council and Administration are looking for residents’ input about the future development of seniors housing at Parkview Estates.

The City is working with Ontario-based Nautical Lands Group to build approximately 200 seniors row housing. The proposed plan is to build it on a 15 acres space in Parkview Estates at 72 Avenue and 29 Street.

These homes would be available to seniors over the age of 55, and support leisure and security as seniors move into retirement and the later-stages of unassisted living. Currently, the neighbourhood has 655 acres of residential, commercial, green space and educational amenities.

To develop the area, the City says their Land Division is looking at partial reallocation of low-density residential property to medium density and suggesting the original medium density area be transitioned to low density to balance this transition.

Land Division also is wanting to have an alternative development plan if the need for another school site come up in the neighbourhood.

The Area Structure Plan Amendments also includes, the City notes, provisions for the opportunity of commercial development at 7202 34 Street.  This or the medium density residential use that it’s already been bookmarked for are possibilities. but its exact use or future development will depend on market conditions.

In an effort to get the public’s input, residents will be able to use the Your Voice Lloyd website to offer suggestions, calling 780-874-3700 or using the site’s Virtual Q&A board. These will be open until March 26th.

All of this feedback will be presented to City Council before any amendments are made.
