Drillers soccer club to host comedy fundraiser

Another annual fundraising event is happening in Lloydminster this weekend.

The Lloydminster Drillers Soccer Club is holding its annual Comedy Night and Dance to raise funds for the indoor soccer rep team. Club Administrator, Amanda Powell mentioned that the event has been very successful in the past. Last year, for example,  it brought in about $26,000, but she says they have adjusted their expectations for this year amidst the economic downturn.

“We know this year tickets sales have been down a little bit just because of the economy…that’s what we were kind of expecting. So we don’t really have a ‘number,’ as long as it’s successful I guess, we don’t really have a ‘number’ in mind. Last year, we raised quite a bit of money: about $26,000. We don’t think we’re going to come close to that. $15-20,000 is what we’re hoping for this year,” says Powell.

The players work to sell the tickets and their parents volunteer to work the event in different shifts so its fully undertaken by the club. Powell says there are still tickets available but they are almost sold out at 475 accounted for of 500.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased by calling Amanda at the office (306-830-8030) or at the door. Reserved group or Corporate tables, seating 8, are also available for 300 dollars, and include prime seating, as well as one drink ticket per person. The event takes place Saturday, January 23rd at the Lloydminster Stockade. Doors open at 6, show starts at 7:30.
