Alberta RCMP asks drivers to slow it down on highways during Annual Highway Cleanup

The Alberta RCMP is reminding drivers to be cautious this weekend, as they may see more of their neighbours engaging in community cleanups.

The provincial detachment says this Saturday, May 1st, marks Alberta Transportation’s 45th Annual Highway Cleanup. From 7 AM to 5 PM, drivers travelling along highways may see more people out on the sides of the road picking up garbage.

Oftentimes these are young people in groups or clubs, picking up trash and litter as a means of raising funds for their organizations or chosen charities.

Drivers are told to slow down in areas that are marked off for these cleanups, be aware of the increased foot traffic.

Officers will also be out and about all day Saturday to make sure people are being traffic-safe and not speeding.
