New art events in the border city

Splat on the Border has started up in Lloydminster.

The small company is hosting bi-monthly socializing events, centered around art projects for amateurs and artists of any skill level. The events aim to offer residents a new way to meet people or take up a new hobby as well as showcase local artists as they are hired on to guide participants through the evenings’ activities.

The first “creative, socializing event,” as organizer/owner, Glenda Shienbein refers to them, was held Saturday, January 30th, at the Sticks in town. It was paint night offered for $35 through online registry and all supplies were provided.

“It went awesome! I was booked. I had a full 25 people, plus a couple that were waiting. It was well-received. The ladies loved it and had a blast. It’s not only for ladies! The challenge I put out to the ladies last night was to get their male partners to come, whether it be sons or significant others, or whoever,” says Shienbein.

Shienbein also says she has a number of plans for the future, like bringing the events outside when the weather gets nicer to host them on restaurant patios. that she hopes to bring the events outside when the weather gets nicer, to host events on restaurant patios and the like.

“In the future I’ll be holding some other events that will be a surprise to everyone,” says Shienbein. One of the ideas she has is to alternate the event activity to different forms of art, so it won’t always be a paint night.

The next event is Sunday, February 14th at Second Cup from 2-4:30 p.m. You can find Splat on the Border on Facebook.
