SGI rebate cheques on the way to residents

SGI customers are being told to keep an eye on their post boxes, as their rebate cheque is in the mail.

In an announcement Tuesday, the company said that the cheques have been sent out, and consumers can expect them sometime between mid-May and Mid-June.

The rebates, announced earlier this year, will see a total of $285 Million being given out to all 709,000 of SGI’s customers who have paid insurance premiums on a vehicle between 2018 and 2020  and met the residency requirements to register a vehicle as of February 26, 2021

The provincial insurance company decided to give back to its customers after coming into a strong fiscal position.  The one-time rebate is expected to come out to an average of $380 per consumer. It applies to all vehicles, motorcycles, trailers and snowmobiles.

Due to the large volume of cheques being sent, it’s possible customers living in the same home might see their cheques arrive at different times. Customers are asked in the meantime to make sure their address is up to date with SGI, and if they don’t get a cheque before June 30th, to reach out.

Any cheque less than $5 will not be sent, and instead applied to the customer’s account.
