Construction season officially underway in Lloydminster

Drivers can expect to see more construction crews around and more detours in place as shovels hit the ground on several roadways.

One of the major projects will be a large section of Highway 16/44 Street, between 59 and 75 Ave. The final steps of constructing transition zones and putting up detour signs have been completed, and traffic will begin being diverted on May 27th.

Highway 16 will be down to one lane, both ways for the next six months. This will allow Knelsen Sand and Gravel to begin the work of changing the concrete curb and gutters, patching damaged roadways, and complete asphalt resurfacing.

The intersection of Highway 16 and 62 Avenue will also be closed during construction for the installation of concrete pads and the replacement of the water and sanitary sewer mains, including other related municipal service connections.

North-South Traffic will be able to use Range Road 14 and 75 Ave on the west side of the city and 40 Ave on the east side to avoid the construction area. East-West Traffic can use 12 St on the south side of the city and 67 St on the north side.

Work also begins on two Street improvement plan jobs this week

This week will also see crews starting on 49 Avenue from 38 Street to 42 Street work, which will run until Friday, July 30, 2021, weather permitting.

The portion of the roadway will also take a replacement of sections of concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk, patching of failed areas of road and complete asphalt resurfacing.

In addition, the alleyway between 41 Street and 43 Street and between 57 Avenue and 59 Avenue is closed for paving until Wednesday, June 30, 2021, weather permitting.

Drivers should expect lane restrictions, and detours will be clearly marked. In all of these cases, driver and pedestrian caution and courtesy are asked for. Construction notices have been sent out to those directly impacted.

The next street improvement project set to start is 57A Avenue from 27 Street to 29 Street, slated to begin Monday, May 31st.
