Lloydfest 2021 is on for August 14-15

The multi-cultural showpiece, Lloydfest is at the Ex Grounds on the weekend of August 14-15.

The event is in its third year. It celebrates the culinary and performing cultures of residents who have come to Lloydminster from the world over.

International Festivals Lloydminster Society President Susan Cambridge  says patrons will have to come out to get their Lloydfest Boarding Pass which is a glossy keepsake that gets you entered for the daily door prizes. They will be having live entertainment and food vendors will unfold their world cuisine from 11 a.m. each day.

Lloydfest- The Movie will be shown twice per day. Cambridge says it documents their journey over the last three years.

“It also talks about the journey of Lloydfest from 2019 to where we are today and how we have managed to jump through the hoops of COVID and still be able to present something very entertaining to the family. As well, we have been able to collaborate with Folkfest in Saskatoon, whereby we were able to share videos with them. So you will get a little bit of Folkfest if you have never been to Folkfest.”

Countries represented include Bangladesh, China, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Scotland, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine, as well as First Nations and Métis presentations and local entertainers plus activities for the kids. Cambridge adds the Lloydfest movie is a mix of the last 2 seasons with new performances. Maz Entertainment is on board to provide the viewing experience for the two-hour showcase.

When the planning started, it was uncertain how far restrictions would be lifted by this Summer. Cambridge is thrilled at the prospects of having restriction free events.

“Thankfully, we may be crossing over from restrictions to no restrictions and that’s an exciting time. We were planning Lloydfest as a drive-in movie to our movie event. Now with the announcement of the restrictions to be lifted, we can shift things a bit.”

Lloydfest 2021 will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., August 14-15 at the Lloydminster Exhibition grounds.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
