Lakeland College Business Club hosts 3rd annual Fashion on a Budget

The 3rd Annual Fashion on a Budget event has happened once again at Lakeland College.

The Business Club puts on the show each year, pitting students and club members against one another to find the best interview attire for just over $30.00. The fashion show is more like a business pageant, really, wherein contestants not only walk the runway in their interview attire, but also answer questions from a panel of judges, on topics ranging from their personalities, home lives, and careers.

“Above all, I want to thank the students from the Business Club. At Lakeland College, we say a lot that our students take the lead. And every year, I step back from my role as adviser, and allow the students to make  all the major decisions that go into an event like this. And I am incredibly proud of the work they put in,” says Ben Acquaye, instructor at Lakeland and Business Club Facilitator.

Acquaye also thanked the sponsors, community members who came out to spectate, and all the people associated with the college who helped in making the event come together.

Owner of the Hour Glass Factory and Forge Athletics, Amanda Sexsmith, also attended. She was one of the Fashion on a Budget judges.

In her steadfast rules for dressing for success, she recommended not overpowering one’s interviewer.

“Sometimes, I find people can wear harsh colours, trying to make a big impression. But I say, tone it down, stay neutral, minimal accessories, and look confident. That’s the hugest thing,” says Sexsmith.

Overall, Sexsmith said, she thought the contestants really pulled it off with their small budgets of only $31.69
