Traffic stop near Maidstone results in drug bust and arrests

Three people are to appear in Lloydminster Provincial court following a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Maidstone.

On Wednesday, August 4th around 4:45 p.m., an officer with Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit stopped an eastbound vehicle, for a driver’s license check.

Two men were in the vehicle and the driver was unable to provide a driver’s license. During the traffic stop, a woman drove up in a second vehicle and provided the driver a license.

The officer suspected that the the occupants of the vehicles may be in possession of drugs. A search was conducted and the following items were found:

  • 36 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • 2 pounds of suspected illegal dried cannabis
  • A taser
  • About $3,000 in Canadian currency
  • A functioning digital scale
  • Five cellular phones
  • A vacuum sealer with several unused vacuum-sealed bags.

Identity documents were found which matched the description of the male driver. It was learned that the driver’s license the man originally provided did not belong to him.
