RCMP use spike belt to stop a suspect following Wainwright home invasion

Over 25 police officers from several detachments on both sides of the Border were called out as events from a home invasion unfolded in Wainwright Monday morning.

RCMP says just after 10 a.m. they were called to a home invasion on 6th Avenue in Wainwright.

Officers say a man allegedly forced his way into a home. He was armed with a gun.

Investigators say the man is suspected of stealing a pick-up truck in the area before forcing himself into the home.

Police located the truck and when the man failed to stop, officers gave pursuit.

The chase continued through several RCMP jurisdictions and officers allege the man fired at police during the pursuit.

Officers deployed a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle and bring the chase to an end.

The 37-year-old driver, of Red Deer, was placed under arrest and is in police custody.

No one was injured during the chase.
