CRA Liaison Officers ready to help small business

Small business owners are being invited by CRA officials to access several free support services ahead of tax season.

Courtney Tummon, Manager of  the Liaison Officer Program says the service is designed to help businesses navigate their tax filing so they can focus on growing their operation.

“We help them to understand their tax obligations. We discuss common tax errors. We answer any tax related questions, address any concerns they may have and provide recommendations on how they can strengthen their bookkeeping systems.”

Tummon says the service is free, offering personalized support and guidance to each business. Every visit from a Liaison Officer is tailored specifically to that business, with considerations like size and industry coming into play.

With the economic benefits that have been available over the last 18 months, Tummon says her team has been reaching out to let people know about their service and reduce the challenge of figuring out where on the tax form to report these benefits.

Tummon says liaison support is available whether a business is new or already established.

“A lot of people who have just started a new business [are] looking to make sure they are setting up their books and records; making sure that they are doing things right. So we are there to help them provide some support in doing that. Established businesses may have some questions around, are they doing this correctly or are they doing that correctly.”

Tummon is inviting business owners to book a visit with a liaison officer either in person or virtually on the CRA website.

Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
