Both Vermilion and St. Paul are now running upgraded wastewater treatment facilities.
The plant in Vermilion cost $18.9 million and St. Paul’s total was $16.1 million. Vermilion contributed $7.5 million dollars for their upgrades and St. Paul put in $7.3Â million for their plant. The Government of Alberta contributed $6.7 million and the Federal government contributed $13.5 million.
Both plants were upgraded to meet present environmental standards with room for future growth of the communities. Two hundred and eight jobs were created over the course of the projects.
MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright Garth Rowswell noted as part of the Alberta Recovery Plan, the projects got Albertans back to work.
MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul David Hanson added that the construction of the plant in St. Paul kept the economy moving during the COVID pandemic.
Construction in Vermilion began in 2018 and St. Paul started their upgrade in 2019.
Vermilion mayor Caroline McAuley is excited to commission the state of the art facility and looks forward to it servicing the needs of the community and protecting the environment.
St. Paul mayor Maureen Miller is thankful for the grant money they received which she says allows them to leave a legacy that the community can be proud of.
