Unemployment ticks upwards in the Midwest, says latest Stats Canada report

For a second straight month, the Camrose-Drumheller region which houses Lloydminster saw unemployment move upwards. The percentage rose from 7.2 per cent in July to 8.8 per cent in August.

On the Saskatchewan side,  the Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan area shows an increase from 5.2 per cent in July to 5.3 per cent in August.

Provincially, Alberta is holding at 8.8 per cent for July and as well August.

Saskatchewan overall shows unemployment going up from 6.6 per cent in July to 6.9 per cent in August.

Nationally, 90,000 jobs were added last month. Most of the gains were full-time jobs in the services-producing industries as overall unemployment ticked downwards for a third month in a row to 7.7 per cent.
