Heart of Treaty 6 calls for Moment of Silence at 2:15 pm, September 30

As a sign of respect and reflection, Heart of Treaty Six is calling on residents in the North West region to take a moment of silence at 2:15 p.m. September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

They note that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was set up after the largest civil lawsuit in Canada by Indigenous People who suffered trauma and other forms of abuse from the Federal government and various churches.

Co-chair Doug Abrosimoff says the day has been established to acknowledge the historical impacts of the Residential Schools system and they urge Canadians to provide a safe and open space for the survivors.

They acknowledge September 30 will cause people to relive the trauma, the most recent being the discovery of unmarked graves at residential school sites.

In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, they add Heart of Treaty 6 is building relationships with organizations in Lloydminster and area as they work together to foster a better future between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
