Employment up and down in Lloydminster areas over last month

The unemployment rate once again rose on the Alberta side of Lloydminster, while the Saskatchewan side declined over the last month.

Statistics Canada dropped their latest report Friday, which showed the Camrose-Drumheller region, which houses Lloydminster, rose to 9.2 per cent unemployment in September. This is the highest rate in this zone since February and follows an increasing trend in unemployment since July.

Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan side saw more positive results. The Prince Albert-Northern region sits at 5.1 per cent unemployment. The September decrease follows a slight uptick in unemployment over August.

On the provincial level, both Alberta and Saskatchewan saw unemployment go down in September. Alberta’s rate now sits at 8.4 per cent, down from 8.8 in August. Saskatchewan’s is at 6.7, down from 6.9 in August.

Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate was at 7.3 per cent in September, down from 7.7 in August.
