Lloydminsterite scores honourable mention at Tourism Sask contest

Justin Hauber of Lloydminster has gotten a honourable mention in the People category of the 2021 ExploreSask Photo Contest by Tourism Saskatchewan.

His picture taken at sunset on Jackfish Lake in North Battleford Provincial Park with family members was done using a Canon Rebel DSLR.

“My dad, myself and my brother, we took the canoe out just after we had dinner. The sun was setting so nicely and I was in the middle of the canoe; my brother was in the front and my dad was in the back and I was in the middle just shooting some photos. And that resulted in the photo that I took and received the honourable mention for.”

Hauber entered his submission in the spring and got news of his recognition about a month ago from Tourism Saskatchewan.

He developed his photography as a hobby and extension of his art. The Holy Rosary High School grad was also involved in the local arts scene and learned dance at Fame Dance Studio. His dancing steps took him to an audition for a job at sea.

“I have been working for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for over five years now. I auditioned to be a professional dancer onboard when I was 18-years old and the rest is history. I’ve been overseas ever since. I come back home in between contracts where I’m on the ship working, performing and dancing.”

One of those breaks for Hauber was during the COVID months. MyLloydminsterNow will be doing a follow up story with him later this week to find out more about his world travels. He is presently onboard a ship in the Hong Kong area.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
