SPCA planning for 2022 move

“Next year we are moving into a new building. So that is really exciting. That is a great thing for us.”

Becca Lawrence, Community Outreach Manager with the Lloydminster SPCA shares the enthusiasm of the organisation as they come to the end of the year and look forward to moving in the Spring to a new location.

“Anyone that has been to the shelter, or even coming up and talking to me; we need a new building. Everybody can see it. As much as we love this little place, we know that we need a new building. Just to keep ourselves and the animals happy and safe.”

As she reflects on this year, she says there’s always something going on at the SPCA, COVID or not. One challenge is to sustain funding and donations.

“We’ve had ups and downs just like everybody else. We do notice that our donations have gone down a little bit as well too. And obviously that is to be expected.”

Fresh out of their Jail & Bail event the SPCA raised $13,740.73.

Lawrence dishes on what the new space will look like at 5206 – 63 Street in the Glenn E. Nielson Industrial Park.

“It’s got two bay doors at the back. There’s an upstairs. So that’s where we are thinking of putting our isolation and observation cats. We’ve got the front area for us and we are going to make cat rooms for the ones that are up for adoption. So it’s a good space for what we need.”

She says there will be more space to afford greater separation for animals, and as well ventilation to isolate any illness that may come into the shelter and reduce the chance of spreading to other animals.

Lawrence is sharing well wishes for this season on behalf of the local animal shelter.

“The Lloydminster and District SPCA staff and board of directors would like to wish our amazing community and surrounding areas, a safe and happy holiday season. We are looking forward to sharing a new and exciting 2022 year with all of you.”
