Vermilion RCMP detain wanted suspect

A County of Vermilion River man is slated to appear in court on Monday January 17th after police stopped what they say was a suspicious vehicle.

Vermilion RCMP stopped the vehicle near Township 504 and Range Road 63 on January 4th at 4:30 p.m.

Their investigation found the driver was wanted on outstanding warrants and a search turned up suspected illicit substances.

Police further executed a search warrant and found about $2000 in suspected stolen power tools.

Twenty-seven year old Christian Charles Rushton is facing charges for alleged:

  • Two counts Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Driving a motor vehicle without Insurance.

Rushton was granted bail ahead of his next appearance in Vermilion Provincial Court.

Police say this is an example of how reporting on a suspicious vehicle can mitigate larger issues which impact the community.
