Sixth in a row for Lakeland College

For a sixth consecutive year, Lakeland College is on the list of Alberta’s Top 75 employers by Mediacorp Canada.

Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College says that this is such an honour.

“At Lakeland, we know our strength is our people – the faculty and staff who dedicate their time to providing students with a hands-on, real-world education. It has always been important to us to ensure we provide a supportive, positive work environment, one which prioritizes our employees’ physical and mental health, as well as work-life balance.”

College officials note that the selection committee looked at the academic institution’s health benefits plan, including a health and/or wellness spending account and allocated sick days. They add Lakeland’s family-friendly culture, with maternity leave top-ups and paid personal days off was also considered, as was the college’s pension plan and retirement assistance planning.

Wainwright-Stewart expressed her pride in the team especially with the challenges of the last two years.

“Facilitating working from home where possible, offering compressed or flexible working hours, and increasing our mental and physical health supports have all been important. I am so proud of our team at Lakeland as we have continued to foster a connected, collaborative environment. This designation recognizes our efforts.”

Lakeland College has 298 employees with the longest staffer serving for 42 years.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
