Lloydminster City Council has awarded the contract to supply lime technology at the Water Treatment Plant to Storage & Transfer Technologies of Milton, Ontario in the amount of $339,000 excluding GST.
The city also approved a contingency allowance of 15 per cent in the amount of $50,850 excluding GST.
As well, Council approved the contract for the powder activated carbon technology at the Water Treatment Plant to Mequipco Ltd. of Calgary for $237,380 excluding GST with a 15 per cent contingency allowance $35,607 excluding GST.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers shares that the technology which the City is buying will assist with ensuring the right amount of lime and carbon levels are in the city’s water supply. He also noted that the city’s team was able to get 38 years of service from the current equipment, when that lifespan was slated for 25 years.
“So the intention of the team; they’ve worked diligently with an engineering firm, working on behalf of the city as an owner engineer. Now we have the technology vendor that has the equipment that actually does the fine pieces.”
Aalbers explained that the next step will be to put out for tender to have the two new purchases installed.
“The 3rd piece will be to find someone to assemble it and install it at the city. So that will go out to bid in the future with the targeted date for October-November installation, when it has the least effect on the water system and the water quality of the city.”
With respect to supply challenges, Aalbers added that Administration will get that contract signed and executed as soon as possible.
