Police charge two suspects following Vermilion house fire

Vermilion RCMP have charged a man and a woman as suspects following an explosion at a house.

Officers say they were called out to a report of suspicious activity at a home on Township Road 490 in the County of Vermilion River on February 8th, at about 6:20 p.m.

Officers report when they arrived they saw the two suspects exiting the residence and as the duo was leaving, an explosion occurred and the house became engulfed in flames. Officers say with the explosion, one of the suspects was knocked to the ground.

Officers arrested the couple. They say there were no injuries to either officers or the suspects and there was no one in the home.

Officers at the scene noted several suspected stolen items and they later obtained a warrant to search the property.

Vermilion RCMP and County of Vermilion River Fire Investigator continue are investigating and remain at the location.

Police have charged 55-year old Charlene Young and 50-year old Cody Nydokus with arson under Section 434.1 of the Criminal Code.

Both Young and Nydokus have had a judicial hearing and have been released with conditions. They are scheduled to return to Vermilion Provincial Court on March 7th.

Police say as the matter is before the court, further details will not be released.
