Paint the town red for Hometown Hockey, City

The City is on board to decorate in red as Lloydminster is hosting Rogers Hometown Hockey March 19th-21st.

From storefronts to homes, schools and front yards, residents are being asked to celebrate Canada’s game with red and hockey-themed decorations for the chance to win some Rogers Hometown Hockey prizes, by signing up at lloydminster.ca/PaintTheTownRed.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers wants residents to let people see that Lloydminster is a hockey town.

“So I really encourage people to take that time. Get those hockey sticks out in front of your house in the remaining snowbanks that we have. And if you can turn your lights to red that would be terrific. Certainly we have had a lot of interest from the downtown businesses. There is a shift in the location from the downtown to the Servus Sports Centre. But I want to remind people, while you’re in town spending a couple hours at Hometown Hockey, please  join us and help support our local merchants.”

The Hometown Hockey website lists the hockey and musical entertainment for Saturday and Sunday ahead of the original six match up on Monday March 21st between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins.

While attendance is free, Aalbers is reminding of the need to pre-register for the event.

“Rogers Hometown Hockey is very attuned to the health and well-being of people as well as the city, and they came to us and said,’This is the program that we are offering,’ and we said,’Our community is well versed with working with programs.’ I encourage people to just be respectful that way and register ahead of time.”

Residents can get free tickets at lloydminster.ca/RogersHometownHockey
