Lakeland College adds business market major

Prospective students at Lakeland College have a new major in marketing being added to the business administration diploma program this fall.

Available at the Lloydminster campus, officials say students can build a solid foundation of business skills before pursuing further marketing courses, including e-commerce, consumer behaviour, marketing research, public relations as well as advertising and promotions. The first year of the program can also be completed fully online.

“We’re offering a range of courses that reflect the opportunities available in the marketing field, and we’re pairing that with experiential-based learning that will see our students work with our local business community. We know there is a demand for marketing jobs across all industries and our program will help meet that need,” says Angela Minish, instructor and chair of Lakeland’s School of Business.

Students can also take part in an optional 16-week paid co-op placement between their first and second year. The co-op opportunity is another way to put theory into action while building networks and business experience, say course administrators.

Officials add the marketing major will prepare graduates to succeed in various career paths in marketing, sales, corporate communications and media relations in industries including:
• financial institutions and credit unions
• small and big businesses
• government departments
• health services
• sports teams and organizations
• advertising agencies
• media companies and outlets
• advocacy groups and associations.

Students will have the opportunity to continue their education at Lakeland by completing another business administration diploma major through the on-campus degree options with Athabasca University.

Applicants needing enrollment details can email: [email protected].

Lakeland’s business administration diploma program also includes the following majors: accounting, general business, real estate appraisal and assessment, and small business and entrepreneurship. The School of Business also offers two certificate programs: accounting technician and administrative professional.

More information on Lakeland’s business programs can be found on the College’s website.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
