Adding Border City physical activity to win 100K prize

Throughout the month of June, Lloydminster residents can jump on the fitness train to help get the city one step closer to a $100,000 benefit for the proposed events centre.

Lloydminster Place fundraisers are encouraging the community to log their activity by downloading the ParticipAction Canada app.

Joel Turcotte, director recreation and cultural services with the city, wants everyone to get onboard.

“What you do is you download their app. And then you put in your active minutes that you do every single day. Those are calculated on ParticipAction’s website and each community builds up those numbers.”

By logging your physical activity, explains Turcotte, Lloydminster will have a shot at the grand prize.

“ParticipAction is a community better challenge is what it is. It’s really just trying to get people active in the community and track those minutes. It is a challenge and so what we are trying to become is the most active community in Canada.”

The city is asking event planners who are planning physical activity functions in June to send them an email at [email protected], so they can be added to the ParticipAction tabulation.

More details can be found on the city’s webpage.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
