Government cabinet shuffle a “status quo” approach: Meili

Saskatchewan NDP leader Ryan Meili describes premier Scott Moe’s cabinet switch up as a “status quo approach.”

The opposition leader makes his assessment against what he calls the issues that matter most to residents like “the affordability and cost-of-living crisis, health care capacity, cuts to education and investments in mental health.

The big critique is reserved for health minister Paul Merriman who retained the health file.

Meili states under Merriman’s watch, “Saskatchewan had the worst response to the 4th wave of the pandemic, the highest COVID death rate, as well senior health leaders continue to leave the province, and he’s fostered a divisive relationship with health care workers.”

“Maintaining him in this role sends a clear signal to frontline workers and will create clear challenges when it comes to the retention and recruitment of health care workers to this province,” concludes Meili.
