Hindley backs long term care spaces: Seniors Society

The Lloydminster Concerned Citizens for Seniors Care Society is sharing details following their meeting with Saskatchewan Rural Health Minister Everett Hindley.

The minister who is tasked with mental health and addictions was in the Border City Wednesday for meetings with several groups including Residents In Recovery and the Libbie Young Centre. He gained insight to programs at Residents In Recovery at his first visit to their downtown location. He was also at the Libbie Young Centre for their AGM.

As MyLloydminsterNow has reported both Alberta and Saskatchewan have agreed that Lloydminster is facing a shortage of 60 long term care beds and by 2035, that will grow to 148 beds.

President Graham Brown says in a statement that Hindley supports the advocacy that’s ongoing in Lloydminster and that they should be proposing more long term care spaces on the Saskatchewan side of the city.

Brown indicated that discussions ranged from the quality of care, the importance of Lloydminster as a regional centre for health services, the status of Jubilee Home, and that the shortage of long term spaces is “much greater” for areas east of the border markers.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
