44 Street repairs to be done Aug 31: City

City crews working to repair 44 Street from 48 to 55 Avenues are aiming to be done by Aug. 31, city engineers say.

This as the city repairs two intersections to resurface failed areas of the road.

Drivers noted the lane closures and detours on Tuesday and the city says crews are working on the south side of 44 Street. As a result, 50 Avenue (Highway 17) and 52 Avenue intersections are closed to motorists travelling east/west and wanting to turn south. Those travelling east are unable to turn north on 50 Avenue from 44 Street.

When the south side of the highway is completed, crews will move to the north side and the traffic flow will switch to the repaired south side of the highway, according to the city. As this occurs, 50 Avenue or Highway 17 and 52 Avenue intersections will be closed to motorists travelling east/west and wanting to turn north. Eastbound travellers will be unable to turn north on 50 Avenue or 52 Avenue.

Next on the repair list is 36 Street and 52 Avenue and 56 Avenue, south of 44 Street.

The city is reminding drivers to allow extra time for travel, slow down when driving in construction zones, and obey all signs, detours, and barriers. It also encourages drivers to seek alternate routes until project completion.
