To coincide with national seniors day, the city of Lloydminster is hosting a lunch and learn for residents 55-plus on Saturday Oct. 1 at the Legacy Centre.
Community development coordinator with the city Amber Fast sees the need for recognizing the contributions of that demographic.
“I think it’s just important to celebrate our older Canadians who have been friends, partners, parents, grandparents, volunteers, colleagues and just so much more to communities all across Canada.”
International speaker and life-coach, Dr. Allen Lycka will lead a presentation at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch and games at noon and a bingo at 1 p.m.
Fast says the best-selling author uses humour as well as he shares what he terms the “golden pearls of wisdom.”
“He was diagnosed with a disease and was only given so many months to live. And then he found out that it was actually Lyme disease which is curable. And since then, he has changed his perspective to helping people. He has created what’s called the golden pearls of wisdom. It’s kind of a structure of how to lead a resilient and healthy life.”
The event hosted by the city’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Lloydminster Learning Council will have several information tables set up by community groups including the Saskatchewan Housing Authority with staff to share information.
