Trading hockey skates for soccer boots

Some Lloydminster Bobcats hockey players put away their skates on Wednesday for a lunchtime round of soccer with kids at Barr Colony School.

School students and staff lined the soccer field on a sunny but windy day with the cheers ringing around the ground,’Go Bobcats and Go Bulldogs.’

Barr Colony Bulldogs midfielder Cohen Svolosi says he enjoys passing the ball for his team-mates to score.

“I mostly like playing sports because you get to go outside, get some exercise, run around and practice teamwork.”

Nine Bobcats came out for the game including forward Jordan Borysiuk who said it’s been a while since they played soccer, but they look forward to their community involvement.

“We are just happy to be out here. It is good to be part of the community and it’s good to see all of the kids and how happy they are when we come out and get to spend some time with them.”

The event coincided with the Saskatchewan School Sport Week as students are being encouraged to participate in school sports.
