Jack Kemp students make Christmas ornaments for seniors

Monday’s blustery winter conditions didn’t stop kids from going out for break or even making Christmas ornaments for seniors in the community.

Grade six students at Jack Kemp School put their creativity on the line to make some ornaments for an upcoming event at Grace United Church.

Eleven-year old Alex Wood put together a decoration with two bows, a Christmas tree and a shooting star in about 15-minutes.

“I think it’s important to give back and take part in the community – and have fun,” says Wood.

Justin Saulnier has just moved to Jack Kemp School and has been teaching with the Lloydminster Public School Division for 16-years. He says they are spreading community spirit as they make ornaments for the Christmas luncheon at Grace United.

“We find it valuable to foster relationships within the community , especially with our seniors. They have given back in so many ways and little acts like this help show that they are valued and have done lots for us,” says Saulnier.

Saulnier adds with the weather they had seven kids who missed out on the creative exercise.

Grace United has two luncheons planned for Dec. 7 and Dec. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon on both days.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
