Ace of spades comes in for Paradise Hill man

A Paradise Hill man whose girlfriend told him to buy a ticket in the Chase the Ace, admits he almost forgot.

“My girlfriend told me about it the day before. And then the night before the draw, I just remembered it. I said, “Oh yeah, I should buy those tickets. And I did – I’m surprised.”

With three cards left in week-50 of the Turtleford Chase the Ace draw, Michael Babchuk won $104,942 when the ace of spades was called on Thursday Nov. 24.

Babchuk purchased $100 worth of tickets saying he was happy to pitch in for the Turtleford fundraiser. The community is working to pay off the purchase of an ice machine at the local rink. He says it was his first time buying tickets.

“I had got off work when they called me. And they said, “You just won,” and I didn’t believe them. And then they Facetimed me. So I got Facetimed and picked my card and it was the right card. Then I decided to just drive over to Turtleford and meet up with them and get my picture taken with the big cheque. Then it all sunk in.”

The power engineer says the couple will plow their winnings into a new garage and as well take a trip to Jamaica.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
