Alberta Health Services has updated its respiratory assessment tool as it aims to provide residents – including families with young children – some guidance to manage a wide range of respiratory illnesses.
Health officials indicate the tool offers home care options to manage symptoms as well as recommendations on options to know when to seek additional care. They add that the updated AHS tool will now provide an assessment of all respiratory illness symptoms, helping to bring COVID-19 management in-line with other respiratory diseases like RSV, and influenza.
As well, health professionals note that with the increase in cases of respiratory illness across the province, and the influx of young patients at pediatric acute care facilities, the updated tool provides Albertans with another option to obtain tangible advice for symptom management.
