Winter turns the lights out at annual parade

With Environment Canada forecasting wind chills dropping to minus-40 degrees Celsius on Thursday evening, organizers for the Parade of Lights have cancelled this year’s event.

Citing the extreme cold risk to volunteers, organizers and participants, the Dec. 22 event is switching to a pictorial version.

Organizers are encouraging all parade participants to complete the decorations for their entry, and display in front of their place of business, and tag the Parade of Lights on Facebook.

They extend holiday greetings to the community and look forward to having the event next year.

Last year, there were 56 registered entries and the fundraising aspect of the event totalled $22,000 going to four local charities.
