Sask fire departments applying for extrication training, equipment

Saskatchewan fire departments including Lloydminster will be applying for the Transportation Rescue Extrication (T-REX) program, which provides vehicle extrication training and equipment.

Funding from Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) of $5.6 million is being administered by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA).

The T-REX program was developed in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association (SVFFA), the Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs (SAFC) and the Provincial Training Standards Committee. The program’s objectives are to:

  • Enhance capacity for fire departments to respond to motor vehicle collisions through the provision of funded training and equipment.
  • Ensure participating fire departments can maintain their response levels by having set program criteria.
  • Provide the SPSA and SGI with the ability to measure program success for a minimum of five years once each participating community enters the maintenance phase of the program.

The first training event will be held in Regina from Mar. 31 to April 2.

Fire departments can learn more and submit an application on the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency webpage.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
