As the local RCMP are updating policing priorities, getting community feedback is key to shaping that process, says Sgt. Brad Mouland with the Lloydminster detachment.
“We create policing priorities in our community every year and during this we go through a consultation process where we like to engage the public and figure out what’s on your agenda. We talk to our officers of course, internally and with all those answers we come up with a list of priorities of things that we want to really focus on throughout the year.”
His comments come as the police are inviting the community to attend a town hall meeting on Wednesday Mar. 1 from 7-9 pm at the O.T.S room at the Servus Communiplex.
Mouland who has been a member for some 17-years says they get feedback throughout the year but there are a couple topics that people have on their minds.
“Most years there is usually some sort of a traffic component – people have traffic safety concerns within the community and usually there’s a crime related concern as well. People may see an uptick of crime in their neighbourhood or in their specific area and they want to bring it to our attention.”
Mouland adds that people sometimes want more patrols in a particular area and greater police visibility, so getting that information from residents helps to drive priorities in Lloydminster.
Wednesday’s meeting will have representatives from various units within the Lloydminster RCMP.
