Tattoo Expo making its mark in Lloydminster this spring

Lovers of getting ink art to decorate their physique will have the opportunity to visit the Border City Tattoo Expo in May.

Organizers are preparing for the first event of its kind in Lloydminster to house over 80 artists and vendors.

Event planner Marc Blanchette has been travelling the tattoo event circuit and pulling together a wide cross section of artists to come to Lloydminster.

“It’s pretty cool. We have some people coming from Kamloops, Calgary, Regina. We have local artists as well, but we are hitting quite a span – all the way from B.C. to Manitoba.”

Blanchette is prepping to gather the community under one roof at the Centennial Civic Centre for the May 26-28 ink fest. He dishes on some of the added attractions including live contests, MC Mikey Dubz and audio visual set up by Maz Entertainment.

“You can just come in and check out artists and booths. You’re not pressured into getting a tattoo, but someone is there. We have lots of flash available on the table so even if you are looking for an original style of art. The benefit of this is that there are lots of artists with lots of different genres of tattoos that they do. We are collectively putting them in one place.”

Blanchette said they will cater to families and kids over the weekend with play areas and airbrush tattoos.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
