Gun amnesty in Saskatchewan, March 20 – April 9

Firearm Amnesty begins in Saskatchewan this week, running from March 20 – April 9.

To schedule the pick-up of your unwanted firearms, replica firearms, parts and/or ammunition, please call your local Saskatchewan RCMP Detachment, municipal police service or conservation office.

The Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police sees the amnesty period as designed to lower the risk of violent offences involving firearms by safely collecting and disposing of unwanted firearms that may, otherwise fall into the hands of criminals through break & enters or accidental loss.

They add the amnesty is not related to changes set out in the federal government’s May 2020 Order In Council or pending Bill C21 legislation.

As well, do not transport firearms to municipal services, detachments or conservation offices. Improper transportation of firearms presents a safety risk and can result in potential criminal implications.

Police indicate there will be no charges in relation to the unauthorized possession of firearms surrendered as part of this initiative.
