15-year Downtown revamp begins this spring

Phase 1 of Lloydminster’s 15-year Central Business District Replacement Program will begin this spring, according to city planners.

This year’s task is replacing the underground infrastructure within 50 Street, between 49 Avenue and 50 Avenue. Officials say this includes both intersections along with above ground upgrades, installing new sidewalks, street lighting, traffic lights and landscaping.

Planners indicate that businesses will remain accessible, and efforts will be made to minimize any disruptions. Also, officials are expressing their dedication to the vital role businesses play in the city’s economic growth.

“As we embark on the downtown revitalization project, we’ll work closely with local businesses to ensure that the process is as smooth as possible and that their needs are considered,” says Katlin Ducherer, Economic Development Officer.

With funding sources that include the Canada Community Building Fund, Phase 1 has an approved capital budget of $5,310,000.

Updates and timelines on the project are available on the city’s website.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
