Local students moving on at Skills Canada

A Lakeland College student has brought back provincial gold for a second straight year, as Lloydminster students represented at the annual Skills Canada contest.

Tyler Bendfeld has once again secured gold in carpentry as Lloydminster students are putting the border city on the national spotlight with some of them moving on to the next level.

Lloydminster Public School Division

From the LPSD, Lloydminster Comprehensive High School students nailed it in the following categories:

  • Alexis Grillandini – Gold medal in Architectural Technology – advances to nationals
  • Ash Godin – Gold medal in IT Office Software Level 2 – advances to nationals
  • Aashna Patel – Gold medal in IT Office Software Level 1
  • Ty Thiessen – Bronze medal in Public Speaking, which is the first ever medal in this category for LCHS
  • Quinn Dodsworth – Silver in Electrical Installations
  • Xander Gravel – Bronze in Electrical Installations

Lloydminster Catholic School Division

From the LCSD, four Holy Rosary students brought home gold and three of them will be heading to nationals.

Two of the students are in video production and one in photography.

In winners’ row:

  • Gold – Brynt Belizar (Photography) – attending nationals
  • Gold – Lucas Feeley and Jerico Manaloto (Video Production) – also attending nationals
  • Gold – Preema Nathan (Hairstyling Junior)
  • Silver -Danica Nelson (Baking)
  • Bronze – Brayden Milley (Job Search)

Safety awards:

  • Nathan Eckel & Cole Monnich (3D Animation)
  • Brayden Milley (Job Search)
  • Cameron Gargus (Welding)

The national contest will be held at Winnipeg’s RBC Convention Centre, May 25-26.
