Couple facing vehicle theft charges in Vermilion

A couple is to return to the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion as RCMP have laid charges involving a motor vehicle theft.

On May 21, at about 4 a.m., Vermilion RCMP responded to a commercial alarm at a business in Vermilion. Officers report their initial investigation revealed a break and enter had occurred. Further investigation identified a lone male suspect.

Later at about 10:28 a.m., Vermilion RCMP got a report of a theft of a truck which had just occurred in Vermilion. Officers on patrol were able to find the stolen truck and arrested two suspects who they deemed to be involved.

Christopher Lane, 41-years of Vermilion, has been charged with:

  • Theft of a truck
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000
  • Theft, forgery, misuse of a credit card
  • Possession of suspected fentanyl
  • Drive while unauthorized contrary to the Traffic Safety Act

Sheila Heller, 63-years Vermilion, has been charged with:

  • Theft of a truck
  • Possession of suspected methamphetamine

Heller was released on an Undertaking with various conditions and court set for July 17, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.

Lane was held for a judicial interim release hearing. Following the hearing, Lane was released on a release order with various conditions and court set for June 5 in Vermilion.
