Car thief suspect held in forest

A suspected car thief who fled on foot has been held by Provost RCMP.

On June 13, Provost RCMP got a report that a vehicle had been stolen from a business near 57 Avenue. Police led patrols in the area, but were unable to find the vehicle.

A short time later, police got word that the vehicle had been found near Range Road 23.

When officers arrived, they reported that the suspect had abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) was called in, but due to the strong winds and hot weather, the PDS track was unsuccessful, say investigators.

The suspect was later spotted by police, but fled on foot, and again eluded capture.

On June 14, Provost RCMP got a call about a suspicious person walking north of town on Range Road 24.

Police were able to find a male-suspect who took off into a wooded area.

This time police dogs successfully tracked the suspect who police say was identified as the same suspect who had stolen the vehicle and fled on foot the previous day.

RCMP have charged 48-year-old Chad Everett Davidson of no fixed address in Alberta, with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts)
  • Resist arrest by peace officer (three counts)
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Operation of motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Driving an uninsured motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle while suspended

Davidson has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody.

His next court appearance is June 20, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
