Britannia getting $500K in road upgrades

The RM of Britannia is among several communities getting upgrades to roadways courtesy of the Saskatchewan Rural Integrated Roads for Growth or RIRG program.

The RM is getting $500,000 to support road work in its community.

Officials state Township Road 510 known as the 4 mile road and Township Road 514 known as the 10 mile road will get a double seal coat. Construction is slated for August to September 2023 and take about three weeks to complete, weather permitting. They add the roads see over 300 vehicles per day and the project will go out to tender in the next couple weeks.

The RIRG program grants coverage up to 50 per cent of each project’s total cost, to a maximum of $500,000.

“Rural municipalities maintain local infrastructure, which is supporting Saskatchewan’s rural-based industries and the provincial economy,” says SARM President Ray Orb.

This year, Saskatchewan is supporting over 31 RMs with $13 million for a total of $47 million in estimated road, bridge and culvert project costs, states government officials.
