A semi-truck which police say was speeding through Irma, Alberta was eventually stopped by Saskatchewan police in Unity.
On Sunday Aug. 13 at about 2:30 p.m., Vermillion RCMP Traffic Services attempted a traffic stop on a white F-150 traveling through Irma, on Highway 14, at what investigators say was a high rate of speed. Investigators say the truck took off at speeds that were estimated to have reached 180 km/h, with a very erratic and dangerous driving pattern.
Wainwright RCMP began receiving complaints of a dangerous driver ramming vehicles along Highway 17 outside of Wainwright. Additional RCMP were called in to provide support.
Officers rolled out the spike belt, however, the suspect avoided it. Officers report that the driver headed toward police vehicles and into oncoming traffic, fleeing erratically on Highway 17.
The suspect vehicle crossed from Alberta into Saskatchewan where Unity RCMP were able to successfully deploy the spike belt. The suspect vehicle went into the ditch, and a lone male-suspect was arrested.
Police report that there were no injuries. Their investigation is ongoing, and an update will be forthcoming.
