AHS Opens Cancer Help Line for Wildfire Evacuees

Alberta Health Services is looking to help cancer patients evacuated from the Northwest Territories continue treatment.

In a release, AHS says, “If you are a patient who is expected for assessment or treatment for a cancer diagnosis in the Northwest Territories, please call the Alberta Cancer Centre Transition Team, toll-free, at 1-888-432-8865.

AHS will work with you to ensure your assessment and/or treatment(s) are not interrupted.”

So far, AHS say they have placed 55 NWT residents in continuing care spaces throughout Alberta, and are preparing to support between 150 and 200 NWT home care clients. Alberta is also supporting approximately 30 obstetrical patients from NWT. Care is being provided at a number of sites in Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton.
