Driver tries to pull a fast one on RCMP officer

A man has been arrested for obstruction after been pulled over in a traffic stop.

On April 22nd, a Constable with the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment was doing patrols on highway 657 near Kehewin and noticed a minivan with expired licence plates.

A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle and while the officer was approaching the van, he saw that the occupants were switching seats. The Constable asked the original driver, who was now in the back seat, for his identification.

The male provided a name to the Constable that through police checks was determined to be false.

The 44-year-old, male resident of St. Paul, was arrested for Obstruction as well as outstanding warrants, once police checks were completed.  The man was in custody at the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment until his court date, April 26th. He will also appear in St. Paul Provincial Court later this week for outstanding charges, both from St. Paul RCMP and Elk Point RCMP.
