Hillmond and Lloydminster area hockey product Wade Redden has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame.
The defenseman played 14 seasons in the NHL, including stints with the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers, as well representing Canada on the international stage. Redden’s name also dons the arena in his hometown of Hillmond.
Among the other Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Famers inducted on Aug. 25 in Meadow Lake are Goodsoil’s Ronald “Ron” Greschner who played 16 seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers.
Jeffrey “Jeff” Friesen of Meadow Lake who spent half of NHL career with San Jose and finished up with the Calgary Flames. The winger spent 14 seasons in the NHL before heading out to the German league.
Among the Builders category, the King family of Dayna King, D.J. King, Dwight King and Danene Kopperud are being inducted for their contributions to the province and in Meadow Lake where they have run the King Hockey School over several seasons.
In the officiating category, former NHL linesman Mark Wheler started his minor hockey referee career in the Battlefords. From 1992 to 2018, Wheeler was on the line for over 1700 regular season games and three Stanley Cup finals.
In the team category, the Meadow Lake Stampeders are being recognized as a “dominant force” in Saskatchewan Senior (Sr.) A hockey during the 2005-06 and 2007-08 seasons.
This is the 10th year for Saskatchewan Hall of Fame inductees.
