170 Bikers Swarm The Lakeland For Kids

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Lloydminster this past weekend when at 11:30am sharp, what sounded like a rumble from the heavens filled the air.

In fact, it was some 170 Bikers revving up and getting ready to tour the Midwest for the Bordertown HOG’s 12th Annual Toy Run.

Following a pancake breakfast at Denham Chrysler, Mayor Gerald Aalbers joined Deputy Fire Chief Aaron Buckingham and others in sending the riders on their journey.

Following their 250KM journey which saw Turtleford as a midway break point, the event continued into the night with a cabaret and dinner featuring the Hillside Outlaws, with special guests Tommy Charles and Amy Nelson.

Event Organizer, Murray Getty, says totals are looking good.  “We are really hoping to hit our $70,000 goal and we’re well on track for that.”  He adds that the most important factor are those who benefit from the fundraiser.

While the Toy Run will see many other donations to local organizations, Getty says that working with their tent-pole charities is paramount.  “Our big four charities are Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kidsport, The Lloydminster Community Youth Centre and Lloydminster Sexual Assault Services.  We just love being able to help out charities that help less fortunate kids”.
