When Saskatchewan raises its minimum wage by one dollar on Sunday, Oct. 1, it will still be last among all provinces in Canada.
While Saskatchewan will move up to $14/hour, Nova Scotia and P.E.I are next on the lower rungs of the ladder at $15 with Manitoba next at $15.30. Yukon has the best minimum wage at $16.77, while the federal rate is $16,75/hour.
In a new RBC poll released Sep. 20, among the prairie provinces in Alberta and Saskatchewan, respondents were the most concerned about the effect of inflation going into 2024 affecting their debt, and their ability to save and cover unexpected costs.
In the case of Saskatchewan, these findings are consistent with Angus Reid polls conducted in March, April, and June which showed that people in Saskatchewan are feeling the bite of inflation more than other Canadians.
