Over $12,000 raised from United Way breakfast

At least 2300 sandwiches and some $12,000 raised in funds is what organizers with the United Way in Lloydminster are tallying after Wednesday’s breakfast fundraiser.

The money gets divvied up among local charitable efforts in the community.

“United Way funds various programs throughout the city. We try to fit into those pieces that foundations are not able to support. So, the Health Foundation, Residents in Recovery, the Men’s Shelter, the Native Friendship Centre; we support all of those,” says Tricia Hunter with the local chapter.

For local businesses who missed out on being able to order breakfast meals, organizers will open an online window next August. Also, they will be opening a second breakfast station to speed up deliveries.

Hunter shares her takeaway from the day’s event.

“For me, the big piece was that the organizations that weren’t able to feed their staff or maybe were not in the office today, they gifted sandwiches. So we were able to feed over 300 people that would not have had breakfast in a normal day.”

Meanwhile, for non-profits needing the support they can reach out to the local United Way office.
